RYA Yachtmaster Offshore | Skipper & Delivery Crew | 10,000+ NM
I am an RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (Sail) with more than 10,000 nautical miles and over twenty years of sailing experience. I am looking for professional or well-organised opportunities as skipper, first mate, watch leader or delivery crew aboard sailing yachts and catamarans.
On smaller yachts, I am comfortable taking full responsibility as skipper. On larger vessels, I am interested in working as a capable mate or watch leader, contributing to safe navigation, passage planning, crew management and the overall operation of the yacht. I value clear responsibilities and good teamwork, but I also form my own professional judgement and communicate it openly. I will raise navigational, technical or safety concerns early and explain my reasoning rather than simply agreeing with the person in command.
My experience includes paid and voluntary skippering, offshore passages, tidal waters, independent day and night watches, heavy-weather sailing and leading crews with very different levels of experience. Recent passages include an 830-nautical-mile offshore passage from Málaga to Gran Canaria aboard a Grand Soleil 52 as watch leader, as well as Dubrovnik to Vieste in a strong Scirocco with approximately three- to four-metre seas.
In July 2026, I worked as a paid skipper in a four-yacht school flotilla around Elba and Corsica. I was responsible for the safe operation of a 15-metre sailing yacht, navigation, passage planning, crew organisation and daily briefings.
I have sailed monohulls up to 52 feet and modern cruising catamarans including the Nautitech 46 Open, Lagoon 42 and Excess 11. My sailing background reaches back to 2001 and includes repeated assignments as skipper and cruise skipper.
Professionally, I taught sports and geography for eleven years and have also worked in vocational education and training. I am a qualified fencing coach and trained systemic coach. This background has given me strong leadership, communication and conflict-management skills, as well as the ability to help less experienced crew members develop confidence without making them feel constantly instructed or examined.
I originally trained as a professional carpenter and am practical, comfortable with tools and willing to contribute to maintenance and normal work aboard. I am not a certificated marine engineer and do not claim to be one, but I bring technical understanding, careful problem-solving and a genuine interest in learning a yacht and its systems thoroughly.
I have completed the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean shorebased course and am interested in a suitable qualifying ocean passage with responsibility as skipper or watch leader. However, I am equally open to worthwhile deliveries, offshore passages and professional assignments that do not meet the specific Yachtmaster Ocean requirements.
I have completed STCW Basic Safety Training and an accepted ENG1-equivalent seafarer medical. The final administrative formalities for my Commercial Endorsement are currently being completed. I also hold an SRC marine radio certificate and speak German and English.
Based in southern Germany and available for suitable opportunities throughout Europe and beyond. Paid skipper, mate and delivery positions are preferred. I will consider an unpaid berth only where it offers substantial offshore experience or a genuine Yachtmaster Ocean qualifying passage. Travel expenses should normally be covered.
